Rethink Education

Our education system is one of the last places to be remade by technology. That’s about to change. We are investing in the people, ideas and companies that are rethinking the way we learn and teach. Rethink Education seeks to invest in progressive early-stage companies that are at the forefront of the education technology industry and have the capacity to make positive impacts on our communities.

Partners with top tier colleges and universities to create leading online programs blended with face-to-face learning, offering prestigious degrees at a distance.

Ace Learning provides a platform for colleges and universities to tag, share, curate and analyze content across an institution.

Allovue was founded by educators, for educators.  The Company combines the power of financial technology with education data, giving administrators the power to connect spending to student achievement.

American Prison Data Systems provides secure technology to US Corrections facilities in order to improve prison safety, deliver significant cost savings, reduce recidivism, and build inmate-family relationships.

Bridge International Academies is building a chain of private schools that deliver primary education to the world’s poorest, most academically underserved populations for just $5 a month. Beginning in Kenya, where the Company recently eclipsed over 200 schools in operation, Bridge uses a highly sophisticated, data-driven Academy-in-a-Box™ model to scale its reach with increasing efficiency.

BrightBytes is a learning analytics company that measures student-learning outcomes using data analysis and educational research in the form of technology surveys delivered through a proprietary engine.

Burning Glass enables real-time enhanced decision making for recruiting, staffing, academic planning, and workforce planning agencies by examining career patterns, skills, relevant experiences and supply-demand dynamics across millions of jobs. Today, there is an information gap in the labor markets – there is no common language. Companies and job seekers describe roles differently, even for fundamentally similar jobs – making relevant comparisons is difficult. Burning Glass’s solution is a proprietary technology that scans, tags, and translates millions of job postings and resumes, then creates a common language to better match desired skills with employees in the labor market and develop a cohesive picture of the markets’ needs.

Civitas Learning offers a cloud-based platform that uses predictive analytics to help guide educational decision-making. Initially focused on student retention through its Illume platform, Civitas serves the higher education market across a wide array of institutions: from state university systems to private colleges to for-profits to community colleges.

Course Report is an online directory and review service for the discovery of coding and entrepreneurial bootcamps across the world.

Education elements offer blended learning consultation and implementation services to K-12 classrooms.

Ellevation is an early-stage software company exclusively dedicated to serving English Language Learners (ELLs) and the educators that work with them. The Company seeks to become the leading platform that school districts use to manage ESL programs, support ESL educators and close achievement gap for ELLs.

Engrade is an online gradebook that connects school administrators, teachers, students and parents through easy-to-use web-based classroom tools.

EverFi is the leading education technology company focused on teaching, assessing, badging, and certifying students in critical skills such as financial literacy, digital literacy, substance abuse prevention, cyberbulling, and health and wellness, with other verticals to come.

Flocabulary is a web-based learning program for all grades and subjects that uses educational hip-hop music to engage students and increase achievement. Teachers in more than 50,000 schools have used Flocabulary’s standards-based videos, instructional activities and formative assessments to develop core literacy skills and supplement instruction across the curriculum.

General Assembly is a global educational institution offering both online and brick-and-mortar courses focused on technology, business, and design. Educational programming ranges from introductory lessons and workshops to full-time courses and enterprise-level executive training.

Hapara is the leading education management platform for Google Apps. Its tools address critical regulatory and performance mandates confronting schools and districts world-wide. Hapara transforms Google Apps into a powerful learning and analytics environment, reclaims teaching time and cuts software costs.

Knowledge 2 Practice deploys advanced learning techniques using digital technology to help clinical leaders design and deliver a personalized curriculum that measurably improves clinical judgment, critical thinking, and patient care.  The company is transforming how expertise is shared and learned among clinicians around the world.

Neverware offers a desktop virtualization service that allows schools to take their old broken-down machines and run them like new through a centralized system. By revitalizing old technology and managing program usage and installation, Neverware allows schools to save money, time and energy, as well as creating new opportunities for 21st Century learning experiences.

Pathbrite delivers next-generation solutions that help students, schools, and business collect, track, and showcase achievement through e-portfolios, and recommend pathways for continuous success.

Rethink Autism provides web-based educational treatment solutions for autism assessment, training, curriculum and data tracking.

Smarterer is a platform designed to score individuals on any and every, digital, social, and technical skill under the sun. Using crowdsourced test design and a scoring mechanism Smarterer provides a real-time assessment of a user’s competency in a growing number of 21st Century skills.

StraighterLine offers web-based, self-paced, introductory level college courses, and is a leader in making a quality college education more affordable. Students that successfully complete these courses receive credit when they enroll with any school in StraighterLine’s network of partner colleges and universities.

Voxy uses sophisticated technology, live tutors, and state-of-the-science pedagogical principles to teach English learners world-wide, across any device. Voxy’s platform leverages proprietary, adaptive technology to turn real-world, authentic content into personalized, contextual learning activities based on a learner’s interests, routines, goals, learning style, and usage behavior.
